The Glendronach Peated Single Malt Whisky

      Beyond the Label

Nestled in the valley of Forgue, deep in the East Highland hills, is The GlenDronach, one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. A veteran of the Scotch whisky world, The GlenDronach is of true Highland style: a heavy and robust spirit, perfect for a long maturation period in sherry casks. At the GlenDronach Distillery, we have carried forth the tradition of our founder James Allardice since 1826, maturing our whisky in the finest Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. In 2008, nothing less than a complete renaissance began. The BenRiach Distillery Company became GlenDronach’s proud new owner. While time can never stand still, the commitment of the team at GlenDronach ensures that the distinctive practices that have always defined the distillery will live on.

The award-winning GlenDronach range marries the best of Highland and Spanish skill and heritage to offer whiskies of elegant, complex character with tremendous depth of taste. The two different styles of sherry casks that are used to craft The GlenDronach are a balanced mix of Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. Renowned as the masters of sherry cask maturation, our Highland whiskies are recognized for their deep colour and rich flavour profiles, which range from sweet fruity flavours, from the Pedro Ximenez casks we select, to the dry and nutty notes, from superb Oloroso casks.

In contrast to the traditional non-peated character of The GlenDronach, this whisky has been distilled using gently peated malted barley. This expression is matured in bourbon casks followed by a second period of maturation in the finest Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Natural colour and bottled at 92º proof.

      Tasting Notes

      Color

      Vivid harvest gold.

      Nose

Ripe gooseberries dusted with cinnamon sugar combine with a contrasting, crisp citrus. The delicate peat influences give a smouldering, charred wood character filled with freshly ground barley and hints of vanilla toffee.

      Palate

Vibrant oak spices and floral heather honey develop to rosehips and barley sugars, all warmed by a touch of white pepper. Subtle peat notes complement the palate by giving a delicate depth and dryness of glowing campfire embers.

      FINISH

A unique marriage of crisp fruit and barley- laden Highland characteristics surrounded by gentle peat smoke, intriguingly reminiscent of heather burning in the distant glens.
