Tasting Notes
Color
Honey-amber color, moderate viscosity, with golden yellow hues.
Nose
Driven by cooked fruit character, and baking spices. Esters are quite present, banana peel, and baked yellow apple. Nut loaf, oatmeal cookie, roasted nuts and toffee. Also some fresh fruit oil aromas (orange and lemon). A bit vegetal as well, some wet grass.
Structure
On the palate, much more savory in character versus driven by esters. Tobacco, cedar, mulch, and vanilla. Baked apples and banana bread. Worn leather flavors. Tangy and nutty. Acidity is moderate plus, refreshing and zippy. Body is moderate plus, very textural and oily. Sweet orchard fruit flavors but not cloyingly sweet, finishes dry and clean.
About
Ten To One is celebrating Black History Month 2023 with a special Limited Edition release of their award-winning Caribbean Dark Rum. Bottled at 86 Proof, and featuring inspired artwork painted by Devin B. Johnson, this Artist’s Edition accentuates the rich notes of cooked fruit and baking spice that are hallmarks of Ten To One’s pan Caribbean blend. About the Artist: Devin B. Johnson is a Brooklyn based fine artist. With roots in LA, Johnson received his BFA from CSU Channel Islands in 2015 and his MFA from Pratt in 2019. In the last three years, Johnson is one of sixteen artist selected for the inaugural Black Rock Senegal residency program, and for Forbes 30 under 30 Art and Design. His work has been collected by The Hammer Museum, LACMA, Rubell Museum, and Pond Society. With a focus on expressive texture, his pieces are layered and take on narrative format; often centering memory, history, and the imagined. About the Work: Johnson begins all of his works with red, green, and black as a base palette - laying the foundation with traditional African colors. The blue tone draws from historical West African influences and is utilized as a symbol of togetherness and harmony. The prominent figure, representative of the Black diaspora, has a poignant gaze to the future, emblematic of the energy and strength that lives within the spirit of those who have come before us, and those who will exist after us. No added sugar, coloring or flavoring.
