What started as a small barrel-picking group in 2016, the Shortbarrel name has become a staple on the shelves of home bars—assigned only to the barrels that meet the group's high standards. They welcome you to their club and hope you appreciate as much as we do that no two barrels will be the same. ReserveBar's single barrel is genuinely one to keep an eye on. With big berry notes and its long finish, this pick makes a perfect addition to any bar.
From Lee Diaz, Topflight Series Panel Member:
What is on your list of growing whiskey brands that you see making a name for themselves in the industry? On my shortlist has been this quickly growing brand in Atlanta called Shortbarrel. Having started as a barrel-picking group, they have made a name—backed by a wide range of multi-award-winning releases. Earlier this year, I returned to their warehouse in ATL to open a few barrels with this astounding team. In our 3rd selection with them, we have returned to Cask Strength Bourbon.
Before you even crack the bottle, you'll notice the 70 / 21 / 9 mash bill — one popularized by a storied brand in Owensboro, Kentucky. Clocking in at 126 proof, this is a highly drinkable release with a nose full of brown sugar, cinnamon, graham cracker, orange, and cashew. This prepares you for sips full of flavors, including maple syrup, candied cherry, dark chocolate, clove, and pastry. The finish lingers with stone fruit, citrus, mint, herbal tea, toasted oak, and leather. This prepares you to embrace the intensity and liveliness of the peppery undertones.
This bottle will give you one more reason to love Shortbarrel and its focus on identifying compelling single barrels.
