Did you know that George Washington made rye whiskey in Maryland? Maryland Rye Whiskey is one of the original spirits of the U.S., and Sagamore Spirit is working hard to re-establish a historically smooth and creamy rye. They do this by blending together two different mashbills, one being a 95/5 Rye, and the other a 53/42/5 Rye that offers delectable bold flavors with a mouthfeel unlike any other rye you might find. We were fortunate to partner with Sagamore on this barrel select release, which is aged at 7-years but often features barrels edging into 8 or 9YO.

Bottled at 110-proof, this pour has rich, dark fruit, baking spice, and cacao woven throughout the nose and palate. Dark chocolate, clove, toasted oak and a touch of leather meet a classic rye spice on the palate with a long, enjoyable pastry finish. Intense cherry and cheese danish vibes as it lingers. In our Topflight Series program, we've been able to select several excellent rye whiskeys and yet this still ranks among my favorites. It's extremely approachable for rye newbies and still a perfect everyday sipper for rye drinkers alike. If you're looking for a high-proof cocktail, I highly recommend this pour in a classic Manhattan.
