As I have said before, the core of the immediate success and growing cult following of Rare Character has been their ability to identify and curate compelling single barrels from an extensive list of astounding and storied brands. Tastemaker and restaurateur Pablo Moix, who leverages his exceptional palate to make the proper selections, continues to impress with his delightfully complex releases. And this barrel is no different. Sourced from a distillery in Central Kentucky (feel free to pause here to guess), this 5-year, 9-month-old bourbon selection comes with a favorite 72% corn / 18% rye / 10% malted barley mash bill. Pulled at just the right time and boasting a 117.72 proof, it is bold, balanced, and complex. 
On the nose, you'll find toasted brown sugar, orange creamsicle, green tea, fried cornbread, tart cherry, and a touch of oak. The palate has a beautiful intermingling of rich butterscotch, caramel corn, charred oak, cherry pie filling, orange peel, toasted sugar, and lemon tea. This leads into a long finish with lovely tannins, sweet oatmeal, toasted sugar, baking spices, and cherry citrus syrup. It is quite a pour—and a fun way to experience one of your favorite (unknown to us) Central Kentucky bourbon brands at Cask Strength.
