About
Peerless has a long history of producing whiskey, beginning in 1889 in Henderson, Kentucky, with the establishment of “Peerless Caliber” to craft legendary spirits without compromise. Peerless Whiskey was available only through a medicinal license after production ceased in 1917—however, that legacy continued again in 2015. Now located in downtown Louisville, Peerless is crafted from grain to bottle with only the highest standards in mind. This work is exemplified in their Single Barrel program. Kentucky Peerless's identity as an artisan distillery is centered around its uncompromising quality and innovative nature. There is no better exemplification of this than our Topflight Series Single Barrel program. Our team only considers barrels of supreme quality and uniqueness as Single Barrels. This Peerless Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon was selected by a panel of NYWSC and SFWSC judges, including Fred Minick, Zach Johnston, Brad Japhe, and Lee Diaz, as a part of the Tasting Alliance's “Shades of Blue” series. This series endeavors to further recognize and promote astounding multi-award-winning distilleries, having received top marks at Tasting Alliance-hosted programs. We collaborated to select distinct releases that capture the voice and virtue of the work behind this brand. Indeed, this chosen barrel's rare notes and characteristics stand apart and are a beautiful way to celebrate this astounding brand. From Lee Diaz, Topflight Series Panel Member: There is no doubt that Peerless has quickly started captivating fans with incredible releases since coming back into the whiskey scene, and has quickly amassed a growing list of awards to match. There's something so distinctive about its bourbon—and it allowed this brand to resonate with bourbon drinkers and make so many of its releases incredibly difficult to get. Maybe it's the generations of history, the mystique of an undisclosed mash bill, or their approach to using a strictly sweet mash process—the result is astounding. The “Shades of Blue” program was established to recognize brands like Kentucky Peerless, who have connected with spirits fans with compelling flavors and have been recognized many times in San Francisco and New York World Spirits Competitions. Developed by the Tasting Alliance, President, Amanda Blue, each single barrel selection in this program is picked by a panel of past and current judges that have leant their expertise to award astounding submissions and are now joining in picking incredible barrels. We all convened in Louisville, Kentucky, one cold and rainy December morning to tour the Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company grounds and to pick for you a single barrel that exemplifies the work of this brand. The result is a cask strength 115.7 proof pour that is classic Peerless, yet not so much. The nose is rich with cherry, candied orange, maple syrup, vanilla, crème brûlée. You'll discover notes such as cinnamon, brown sugar, marshmallow, dark fruit, and toasted oak with every sip. And then the finish takes a really fun turn into orange citrus, herbal tea, cherry, and mint. It really is a bottle to marvel at and enjoy with friends (or not). PROOF: 115.7 AGE: 6 Years, 5 Months MASHBILL: Undisclosed / Sweet Mash FINISHING BARREL: New American Oak BARRELED ON: 8/17/16 DATE PULLED: January 2023
