Laphroaig Elements is a series of whiskies that delves into the artistry of production that makes Laphroaig’s whisky so richly flavored and characterful.
Experimentation in single malt is often reserved more for cask maturation, than distillation changes. However, the Elements series was brought about by investigating how our whisky character evolves when distillation methods are tweaked at our distillery on Islay.
To create Elements 2.0, the second edition of the collection, the Laphroaig distillery team were given free rein to produce something unexpected that embodies the Laphroaig profile while adding new dimensions of flavor.
In this second release, we explore the effect of an extended fermentation process on our characterful malt.
Distilled during a particularly frosty January, instead of the usual 55-hour fermentation, this whisky is created from a number of longer fermentation, ranging up to almost 5 full days in the tun, a total of 115 hours, specially aerated to maintain mash conditions, like practices of old.
This unprecedented fermentation emphasizes the fruitier notes of our Islay single malt, whilst maintaining our signature peaty character.
The iconic taste of Islay. Bold and bright with a surprisingly sweet smokiness.
Product Type | Whiskey |
Style | Single Malt |
ABV | 59.6% |
Country | Scotland |
Fruity and subtly coastal. Stewed apples, vanilla custard and zesty orange peel with subtle peaty notes.
Fruity, sweet and salty. Green apples and runny honey with cream soda and soft peatiness of a smoldering bonfire and smoked seafood.
Sweet with an increasingly warming smokiness to finish.
