      Beyond the Label

Old Fortuna was the primary whiskey brand of the Stitzel Brothers Distillery in the late 1800s. They eventually sold the distillery to Hollenbach Bros, who changed the distillery name to Glencoe. While it was considered a premium brand in the early 1900s, the distillery was dismantled during prohibition. Glencoe was rebuilt in the 1930s, sold to National Distillers in the 1940s, and produced whiskey until the late 1960s or early 1970s. There's debate about whether the brand was eventually sold to United Distillers, but Mike Veach says that they never owned the brand

Origin: Established by Stitzel Brothers Distillery in the late 1800s.

Acquisition & Renaming: Acquired by Hollenbach Bros; distillery renamed to Glencoe.

Peak Era: Gained prestige as a premium brand in the early 1900s.

Prohibition Impact: The distillery was dismantled during Prohibition.

Reconstruction & Production: Rebuilt in the 1930s; production continued under National Distillers from the 1940s until the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Ownership Controversy: Uncertainty surrounds its final ownership, with some claims of acquisition by United Distillers, though this is contested by whiskey historian Mike Veach.
