Château Mont-Redon owns 100 hectares (250 acres) of the most perfectly-sited vineyards in the appellation. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre in this Châteauneuf-du-Pape grown in these vineyards produce wines that are generous, powerful, tannic, and concentrated. The blend has included a small proportion of Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Cinsault to achieve the perfect, elegant balance in the wine.
More than half of their vineyards are planted on “diluvium alpin” soil on the plateaus of the appellation at elevations above 500 feet. At these elevations, they are especially subjected to the harsh Mistral winds of the region, which can often be over 40 miles per hour, driving away any excess humidity. The vineyards are filled with galets, famous round stones and pebbles, that were spread over time throughout the highest plane, absorbing heat from the bright Mediterranean sun.
