Tasting Notes

Smooth

Smoothness, sweetness and then smoke. A texture like no other, satin soft and devilishly warming.

Oaky

The American oak influence is in perfect tune with the smoke and soft fruits delicately, skilfully coaxed from the still during exceptionally slow distillation.

Vanilla

Vanilla, honey, citrus rise up to be met with sea spray and leather, smoked mussels mix with autumn bracken and crème brûlée.

About

It started out as a late night "what if?" idea and after a few drams. What if we distilled the most heavily-peated barley humanly possible, in the tall, narrow-necked Bruichladdich stills? The world's most heavily peated single malt has had an effect on a world aching for a challenge to comfortable convention. Made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, then matured for it's entire life by the shores of Lochindaal in premium American Oak, it is a testament to the quality of our ingredients. All Bruichladdich Whisky is bottled naturally, un-chill filtered and with no added colour. This retains the vital natural oils which give our spirit its complex flavour profile and mouthfeel. Our whiskies are governed by the human senses - sight, sound and smell. Using only Victorian Equipment, there are no computers, no technicians in white coats, but over a century of combined experience in our team of artisans and a faith in the equipment our predecessors installed and which still runs today. Our barley farmers are our partners rather than suppliers. They tell us about the soil, the wind, the drainage, the aspect, the micro-climate of every field. We are the only major distiller to bottle spirit on the island itself. We believe this is essential for provenance and authenticity.
